Augusta
School of Music
With this project being a School of Music, I wanted to capture the rhythm of the street. I measured the datum lines on one particular side of Water Street. Using them, it allowed the facade to be carved away. The Datum Lines continue throughout the building. Standing at street level, looking towards the stage at the other end of the building, the light guides you in. The spiral staircase allows for use of the upper space on the first floor. The auditorium is on the first floor, just below street level. A stage sits between two layers of light. One over the stage and another window below the stage that allows light in and the river to be seen by the audience.
The School of Music is located on the second floor, with balconies looking over the main stage and outside looking over Water Street. Datum Lines, Light, form and performance were the lenses of this project.
