The Bath Institute
for
Advanced Naval Design and Technologies
The Bath Institute for Advanced Naval Design and Technologies was a project design to be a part of the local maritime traditions and bring a new type of school to the town of Bath. The basic lenses of the project included: Relating downtown to the industrial side that sits on the opposite side of the highway, Adding circulation to the waterfront trail and relating the human scale to the industrial scale.
The site revolves around a reflection pool. Monumental sized pillars mimic the old smokestacks of ships, while introducing industrial scale and frame views of the campus. I designed the campus to be open to the public and engage the neighborhood, adding public attractions such as a theater on the water, museum and stores. This was an exciting large scale project.
Two industrial size hangers were part of the program. A location that students could work on maritime vehicles.
