Portland

Museum of Art

Extension

The Portland Museum of Art Extension, located in Portland Maine, is to connect to the existing museum.  This placement of the new building would cause the Museum's footprint to encompass the Children's Museum.  The majority of the Children's Museums light comes from its main windows, putting a building there would rob the building of its light.

Pulling the Extension away from the Children's Museum would allow for natural light to be used by the Extension and the Children's Museum.  This movement of the footprint allows for a fluid movement throughout the Extension.

It also allows for the fluidity of the form of the new structure.
